DIDACTIC UNIT 2: “JACK´S SCHOOL BAG”.

1. TIMING:

First term

2. OBJECTIVES:

To learn the written and oral form of the words related to school.

To use correctly the verb “to be” in present simple.

To be familiar with the nursery rhyme: “The wheels on the bus”.

To read and understand the story: “Jack’s school bag”.

3. CONTENTS:

Block 1: Oral skills (listening and speaking):

Oral expression of the words related to school; correct pronunciation of the initial

–s, doubled and final consonants.

Block 2: Written skills (reading and writing):

Reading and written expression of the words related to school.

Block 3: Language knowledge:

Vocabulary of the school (pen, glue, scissors, ruler, notebook, pencil case, calculator, sharpener, rubber, schoolbag). Simple present: of the verb “to be”. Prepositions of place: in, on, under, behind and use of the structures: “What is this? “This is…”and “Where is….?”

Block 4: Socio-cultural aspects and intercultural awareness:

Traditional nursery rhyme: “The wheels on the bus”.

4. ACTIVITIES:

Memory games, gap filling activities, bingo, hangman, unscramble words, word search, crosswords, portfolio activities, matching games, singing songs and table board games.

5. ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES:

Direct observation, assessment worksheets collected by the teacher, revision student’s notebook, teacher’s classroom diary and self-assessment.

6. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

To be able to learn the written and oral form of the words related to school;

To use correctly the verb “to be”;

To recognise the traditional song: “The wheels on the bus”

To read and understand the story: “Jack’s school bag”.

7. CONTRIBUTION TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE 8 BASIC COMPETENCES:

The FL class can contribute to develop all the competences but in this particular unit, we will highlight the presence of 6 basic competences: Linguistic Communication, Information and Communication Technologies, Social and Civic competence, Cultural and Artistic competence, Learning to learn competence and Personal Autonomy and Initiative.

Flashcards, worksheets, picture dictionary, board game, CD player and www.britishcouncil.org/kids-games-hangman-school.htm.

9. ATTENTION TO DIVERSITY:

There are two children with specific educational support needs who have just come from China so a lot of motivation and positive reinforcement are needed. In addition, slower and advanced learners will be provided with extra help and suitable activities for their needs.
